I am designing a weekly podcast show to be launched on www.Yaktivate.com and am in the final steps. I am currently looking for individuals to interview (phone) for the show. If you are well-informed, researched, an expert, associated with a natural health group or have attended any of the CAC, or CCNFSDU meetings please contact me at neverheardofcodex@googlegroups.com or comment on this entry.
This is hysterical…unfortunately the WTO didn’t really go, but Seattle reminds us that they don’t always win
Blow-by-blow account of the WTO demonstrations in Seattle in 1999. Funny.
Oh, the WTO, up to Seattle they did go.
They were somewhat naive and did not know
There were people in Seattle
That were girded up for battle.
They were out to get the WTO.
Well, the unions were in motion
by the blue Pacific ocean.
They were marching now on Pike,
or was it Pine?
They were out there having fun
in the bright Seattle sun.
They were thirty thousand strong and feeling fine.
WTO, how we hate to see you go.
Hey, thanks a lot, it’s really been a gas.
Let us show you to the door,
And, by the way, there’s one thing more.
WTO, kiss my ass!
Now, his honor Mayor Schell
Thought he’d died and gone to hell,
And he lost his Christmas spirit then and there.
And the King County Sheriff
Didn’t care about no tariff.
And the turtles, they were flying
Through the air.
Bill Clinton as a guest in
That hotel they call the Westin.
He was wishing he was elsewhere more and more.
‘Cause the teargas was a’poppin’
And he couldn’t do his shoppin’
And the National Guard was standing
‘Round the door.
(chorus)
Mrs. Albright fussed and fumed.
She was locked inside her room.
And Charlene Barchefsky muttered in the hall
‘Cause the third-world delegations
From the disaffected nations
Didn’t go for their agenda, not at all.
Now, folks on Puget Sound
Don’t like getting kicked around.
And they fought back late at night
Up on the Hill.
And it wasn’t long at all
‘Till you could hear the mighty fall,
And the WTO had had its fill.
(chorus)
Now, if you come to this city,
You will find it’s very pretty.
And you’ll find the air so salty and so sweet.
And people still remember
Those fine days in late November
When democracy got spelled out in the street.
So I saw this video on youtube today, stunned that in all my research thus far, I’d never seen it before. A little bummed actually because its a trailer for an event back in April. The rumor is that the event was recorded though I can’t seem to find out where they may have put it.
Did you go to Alternative View Event UK?
Have you seen the recording?
I found the sponsor for the event, which was a Magazine called Breathing Space which has mysteriously gone bankrupt and dissapeared…anyone know who these people are and how I can pick their brains for an interview?
Otherwise, I liked the trailor alot actually, it wasn’t aimed to scare the hell out of you enough for you to care, and seemed to have its intentions in the right place with a mind to inform. Watch it, even though you can’t go :/ It does introduce you to a couple of speakers in the UK on Codex Alimentarius and various books and articles that have been written more recently.

Disclaimer: The video quality sucks. The last 4 1/2 minutes are mute. But the information is clear and its the only video of its kind on the situation in Australia. It also sheds alot of light as to why Australian delegates seem to be pro-Pharma so often. Don’t hate the Australians, its not their fault. In fact, the situation that occurred there in 2003 with the JTA Treaty seems oddly similar to the situation in the US where DSHEA was developed to save us and also was attacked because it did. It also shows how even the countries which consider Supplements as Medicine are vulnerable to the Codex Alimentarius Commission’s legislation. [I've noticed some things that aren't entirely true in this video...so I suggest that you watch it, do some research and see if you can tell ME what those "stretches" are. However, the documents she refers to are real and the quotes she makes are true.
Here's a summary if you're too impatient to watch it I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE! Remember though, the details are in the video...so watch it.]

The Misinformation Campaign: How Health Care Interest Groups disseminate information with bulletins and fact sheets where the information does not address the truth of the treaties and committee meetings.
The Difference between natural medicine and Pharmaceutical medicine
Natural Medicine:
-Oldest medicine- For centuries people have used herbs, plants, and tinctures to prevent and cure illness and disease
-The safety margin of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants consumed for centuries as preventative medicines is higher than any other safety level
-Natural medicine is safer because historically, the body discards excess of intake for vitamins (eat as many oranges as you want! The excess vitamin C will just be passed)
-Example) Rose petals cured Black Plague
Pharmaceutical Medicine:
-Developed in 1940′s & 1950′s with IG Pharbon, Merck and other pharmas developed out of Chemical Industry from Germany from WWII.
-Deficiency conditions don’t exist for medicinal drugs like vitamins
-$Billion multi-national industry (answering to no-one)
Development of Democracy in Australia:
-Laws which reflect community standards
-Parliament established Statutory bodies for healthcare
-State medical boards, Health Department and the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) which oversees Drugs, Chemicals, Nutrients (Nutrients added in 1999)
Development of the Global Elite (Whatever you want to call “Them”):
-Corporations, Global Elite (World Bank), Has developed instruments of influence by accessing Multi-national organization like the UN, WTO, WHO etc.
-Pressure from Global Elite is in Parliament through lobbying, campaign donations,
-> Laws are emerging that do not reflect the interest of the community, but of the other entities “Global Elite”
Result: The Emergence of Corporate Medicine, Compulsory Treatment:
Ex) Health Department and Department of Community services: Vaccinations- if a parent doesn’t want them to have it, there is no recourse because the Pharma Company develops the vaccine and lobbies the Health Department which requires Vaccinations and then the Dept of Community requires Children to be vaccinated & Tax Payers subsidize the Pharma’s Charge for vaccine.
TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) States that Supplements are regulated as drugs (Occurred in 1999, Complimentary Medicines Committee established in order to “sort out supplements”)
-For years, the TGA inspected supplement manufacturers finding no problems. No breaches of safety or quality were found from 1999-2002
-In 2003, the first problem with Supplements occurred in Australia with the Pan Pharmaceuticals Recall of Travacalm. (A Microdose product) The 4th largest supplier and manufacture of supplements with 1700 other natural products, and some pharmaceuticals.
In the middle of their voluntary recall, TGA swooped in and raided Pan.
-Doors closed, not allowed to fix problem, were shut down, the liquidator was called in and within 6 months, the liquidator had sold the $500 million company for $20 million [This isn't true...to my knowledge Pan was simply fined $10 million http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24373843-23289,00.html].
-Health food stores went bankrupt while they recalled most supplements.
-Reports indicate that TGA went into other companies, closed them down and required the owners to undertake agreements (NDA) relinquishing their licenses out of intimidation, and promised not to publicize while also paying compliance costs. Also agreements that the companies wouldn’t sue the TGA if the process cost them $
-Numerous tests showed supplements 100% safe, but instead they were gathered up in a pile and disappeared.
-2 weeks after PAN Recall, an “Expert TGA Committee” was formed in order to make recommendations that could result in amendments to the TGA Act and in other laws.
-Individuals on the committee: part of them were also on the Pharmaceutical advisory council like Reps from Wyeth, a pharma for vaccines and some supplements: (Supplements sales in China kept them in the black)
-ASMI-Australian Self Medication Industry- Global Organization (each country has a branch) members included: Bayer (President) Wyeth, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), SmithKline Beecham Pharma (SB), Boehringer Ingelheim (BI), SATO, Beiersdorf, Proctor and Gamble, DEL, Pan Pharmaceutical

JOINT TAZMIN AGENCY TREATY
JTA Treaty Signed 2003- by Australia and New Zealand,
“Joint Tazmin Agency Treaty” “Agreement between government of Australia and government of New Zealand for establishment of a joint scheme for regulation of therapeutic products.”
-Implementation not set.
-Will abolish the TGA. Brought into an international jurisdiction making Australia privy to Codex guidelines.
-Treaty has a Corporate structure:
Direct Quotes from Treaty:
“Therapeutic use: Preventing diagnosing curing or alleviating a disease, ailment, defect or injury in humans. Influencing, inhibiting or modifying a physiological process in humans,” (makes water a therapeutic good).
“To avoid trade barriers: Leveling the competition: Article 6: The board is established by the chairman, the managing director of the agency, a person with broad experience to health and regulatory matters in New Zealand and another person in Australia. And a person with broad experience in Commercial matters.” (Obviously invintes Pharma)
-When there is an off-shore corporation regulator and on-shore Commission that means you have to have an advertising team: Tran Tasman Advertising Scheme
(same as ASMI members) and stakeholder meetings ensued about the advertising code.
After signing the treaty, the commission (in order to make official) asked AMA to give a submission authored by Dr. Robyn Napier, (pg 2) (After Treaty had been signed)
“This process has largely occurred without the knowledge of the public. The process is occurring against a backdrop of enormous pressure on a number of fronts including PBS spending.” (The Tax-payer buying drugs for the people) Also concerned about opening up direct to consumer advertising. Making prescription drugs into over the counter drugs so that they can advertise them.

Agenda item 10: Risk Analysis
12 Pharmaceutical Representatives in 2003 found on the committee
Days, Months and Years have been spent inside Codex meetings discussing Baby Food and Formula. Unfortunately those discussions don’t even concern protecting consumers against situations like this. In fact, by default, with any bad luck these discussions could actually lead to more deaths and if nothing else, wasted cash and sick babies.
Pharmaceutical lobbyists and their delegates like reps from EU, US, Germany, Austria, and a handful of others are trying to mandate mothers to feed their babies formula instead of breastfeeding. Aside from possibilities outlined in this news break, this is a bad idea for the following reasons:
1. Some mothers can’t afford or dont have access to clean water with which the formula must be mixed with. (Especially Africa)
2. Medical reasons like babies not receiving the anti-bodies from their mothers to ensure a healthier immune system. (Especially in places with lots of disease)
3. Freedom of choice…since when did ANYONE get away with telling a woman how to raise her child?
4. Culturally, many believe that breastfeeding creates a soul connection between mother and child. This should not be violated.
5. Baby formula is easily contaminated (accidentally or on purpose) and opens up EVERY CHILD in the country to be a victim. Sounds like an easy target for someone or group trying to make a point.
6. This contamination with Melamine has occurred in the past and will continue either with the same chemicals or others all for the sake of increasing profit margins. As long as these major corporations interests are being heard, your and mine aren’t. Would you feed anything to your child knowing that the manufacturer only cares about the bottom line? If you would, that’s your choice, but don’t make me jump on that bandwagon.
…I’m sure there are other reasons…but I just thought you should know that we may be seeing more of this in the future if Codex pushes this to step 8.
And in case you were wondering…Codex Heads respond to these argument with “Oh, well the standards are optional so if a country doesn’t want to mandate it, they don’t have to.” And what they don’t tell you is that in the event that a country doesn’t mandate this, and gets involved in a trade dispute with a country that does follow the mandate…the liberal country automatically loses and will get hit with major fines and/or sanctions until it changes its domestic laws. Thanks WTO! I’m just one person, but that looks like a response saying…”You are absolutely right, there are reasons not to mandate this…but if we tell you that there will be exceptions…maybe we can move on and get this thing passed!”
More than 6,200 infants have become sick and four babies have died in China after being fed baby formula laced with melamine, a banned industrial chemical….
The Hong Kong government also announced Sunday that tests found melamine in Chinese-made Nestle milk. The Dairy Farm milk was made by Nestle’s division in the Chinese coastal city Qingdao, it said.
The Swiss food and drinks giant issued a statement Sunday saying that none of its China-made dairy products contained melamine.
“Nestle once again expresses confidence that none of its products in China is made from milk adulterated with melamine,” the statement said. It did not specifically respond to the Hong Kong report of tainted Dairy Farm milk.
Meanwhile, Singapore said Sunday melamine was detected in samples of White Rabbit-brand Creamy Candy. The popular Chinese milk candy was pulled from shelves in the Philippines last year after health officials there claimed it was tainted with formaldehyde….
Already on Friday, Singapore suspended the sale and import of all Chinese milk and dairy products including milk, ice-cream, yogurt, chocolate, biscuits and candy, as well as any other products containing milk from China as an ingredient.
Japan, Malaysia and Brunei have also recalled or banned Chinese-made dairy products.
Since the problem of tainted milk products became public knowledge less than two weeks ago, the crisis has spread to include almost all of China’s biggest dairy companies.
A top official with the World Health Organization said Sunday that delays in releasing critical information about contaminated Chinese milk had hampered Beijing’s ability to rapidly deal with the problem and warn consumers.
…The scandal began with complaints over milk powder by Sanlu Group Co. — one of China’s best-known and most respected brands. But it quickly became a much larger crisis as government tests found that one-fifth of the companies producing baby milk powder had melamine in their products.
A New Zealand stakeholder in Sanlu has said it was told before the start of the Beijing Olympics on Aug. 8 that there was a problem. The dairy farmers’ group Fonterra, which owns 43 percent of Sanlu Group, told the New Zealand government, which informed Chinese officials.
The public was not told until Sept. 11 that the powder, used in baby formula and other products, was laced with melamine.
Melamine is used in making plastics and is high in nitrogen, which registers as protein in tests of milk. Though health experts believe ingesting minute amounts poses no danger, melamine can cause kidney stones, which can lead to kidney failure. Infants are particularly vulnerable.
Some of the farmers who sell milk to Chinese food companies are thought to have used melamine to disguise watered-down milk and fatten profit margins hurt by rising costs for feed, fuel and labor.
Food and product safety scandals have been a feature of Chinese life. Only last year, the government promised to overhaul inspection procedures after exports of medicines, toys, pet food ingredients and other products killed and sickened people and pets in North and South America.
The chemical in the dangerous pet food was the same as in the milk scandal — melamine.

(And this article is from Fox News…makes you wonder what they aren’t telling you….)
What’s wrong with US subsidies for farmers? Our farmers are having a hard time with this rough economy, right? Yes, everyone is…but subsidies are NOT the answer. When the US and other major industrial nations subsidize their industries this is what happens:
1. Farmer Joe receives payments from the government (which impacts Nat’l debt btw)
2. Therefore Farmer Joe can sell more products for cheaper than he normally would be able to and still make the same profit. (Wrong…why would he do that? He’s a struggling farmer…)
3. Or Farmer Joe can sell the same amount of product for the normal price and end up have left overs…
4. These “left over” products are sold DIRT CHEAP to other countries so he can make more profit and get rid of all his stock.
Now the real question is…so what? Who does that really affect?
5. Third world and developING countries’ farmers now have to compete not only with farmers in countries with better access to clean water, industrial machines, information etc now have to compete with Farmer Joe’s great products sold at a margin that wouldn’t even cover their labor, let alone their other costs.
6. Later, these farmers turn to horrible options like child labor, slavery, Genetically mutated seeds, and yes, even suicide to escape their stress, try to provide for their families, and simply survive (or not).
7. Then industrial countries prosecute, FINE, and in some cases sanction (starve) these same countries for inhumane business practices virtually turning starving farmers into homeless, jobless, diseased and malnutritioned populations all over the world.
Who’s voting for more subsidies for Farmer Joe now? Sorry Farmer Joe, there are other options, let’s get creative, we have the resources to do that.
There are many fingers to point. Major corporations usually have the most fingers TO point…which is an indication that they just might be a bulls-eye. Profit. Profit. Profit.
I think its horrible that most farmers are going bankrupt and the consequences of the farmers of a nation on-decline is extremely bad because that turns the nation into an all-importing country at the whim of other nations…
I also think that child-labor and slavery is reprehensible but I’m reminded of a theme in Utopia which argues yet how morally reprehensible it is to first create criminals and then punish them.
I don’t think that countries should get away with human rights violations but I do think that preventing more of them is more effective than punishing them for current atrocities…the children always end up suffering instead of their decision-making government officials.
